Dunbars ALB launched to reports of object in water off bass rock 15/4/16

Dunbars all weather lifeboat the 'John Neville Taylor' was tasked  by Aberdeen Coastguard to reports of an object in the water just off the bass rock on Friday afternoon at 12:53.

The object was described as 1.5 meters in length and about 1 meter in height, believed to be made of metal, the object was semi submerged causing a hazard to any passing vessels in the area. Due to the location, Aberdeen Coastguard paged North Berwick lifeboat the 'Evelyn M' to conduct a search near the bass rock. With the weather worsening, a decision was made to page Dunbars all weather lifeboat to take over the search on the east side of the bass.

The volunteer crew from Dunbar made there way up to the bass rock and stared searching east of the bass rock . After conducting a parallel search, Aberdeen Coastguard were happy that the object had either sank or made its way ashore and informed the crew to return to station.

Dunbars all weather lifeboat made its way back to Torness to be refuelled and made ready for service a short time after.

This was the first shout out of two for the volunteer crew at Dunbar on Friday.
