Dunbar Lifeboat ALB and ILB with Rescue 177

Exercise Dunbar Inshore Lifeboat

Lifeboat stations receive a lifeboat annually for the crew to practice capsize drills, in order to familiarise themselves with the process and attain the required standards to meet with the stringent training programme operated by the RNLI for all operational personnel. Generally, the practice lifeboat is a stripped down version of the original D class lifeboat that has been placed in the reserve fleet without the electronics and other equipment that could become damaged during capsize drills. However, this current capsize boat is the first IB1 inshore lifeboat to be used as a practice boat at Dunbar and will provide the volunteer crew members with a more realistic experience which in turn will raise the crew competency.
