Funding our new lifeboat, 'John Neville Taylor 14-35'
Dunbar has received a replacement Trent class RNLI
lifeboat following the decision not to repair the Sir Ronald Pechell Bt.
The lifeboat was damaged beyond economic repair after her moorings
snapped during severe storms in March. The lifeboat, John Neville
Taylor, from the charity’s relief fleet has been allocated to the town
permanently.
The new lifeboat is seven years old, six years younger than the Sir
Ronald Pechell Bt, has been refitted, at a cost of £170,000 in
preparation for her relocation to Dunbar.
Dunbar's goal is now to raise the £170,000
refurbishment cost of the to the John Neville Taylor.

Fundraising Volunteers
The fundraising committee in Dunbar is always looking for volunteers to
help in fundraising activities, anything from
organising coffee mornings to assisting in the smooth running of Dunbar
Lifeboat day. If you think you have the time
and would like to be involved in helping raise money, please contact us,
using the details on the contact page.
Volunteer Crew
Many people labour under the misconception that to be a member of a
Lifeboat crew, you have to have spent all your years
at sea. Whilst this certainly helps, it by no means prevents keen,
committed people from joining. Of the 4,500 volunteer
crew members within the RNLI, only 9% have a background at sea. There
are other common misconceptions as well; that you
have to be a superb swimmer, have to be male and need lots of time off
work to participate. These are all wrong,
the main requirements are that you are keen, physically fit, have good
eyesight and are willing to commit to attending
a minimum of 2 exercises per month - these take place on Sunday
afternoons and Monday / Wednesday evenings.
Membership
The RNLI currently has over 250,000 members who want to show their
support for the work of the lifeboat crews on a
regular basis. All members are sent The Lifeboat, a quarterly magazine
packed with lifeboat news and rescue stories,
and can purchase gifts and clothing from the exclusive RNLI members
catalogue. There are three grades of membership
to choose from, each with different benefits and offering either single
or joint membership as follows:
Shoreline - for those who value the work of the RNLI and its crews and
want to show their support.
Offshore - designed for those most likely to need the services of the
RNLI, the sea-going community.
Governor - for those who wish to demonstrate a very great commitment for
the work of our volunteer crews.
and for the kids there's Storm Force
Challenge Events
The RNLI also organises many fun, sporting events to help raise money.
Details of times and types of events can be found
on the RNLI events website.
